Six Facts About Princeton, IN!
- Named after a captain! Princeton, Indiana was founded in the year 1814. The town was named after Captain William Prince who led U.S. troops against members of the Shawnee tribe at the Battle of Tippecanoe. Captain Prince went on to serve in the Indiana Congress and U.S. Congress. Prince also served as one of the first county commissioners for the area. During the Civil War, Camp Gibson was used as a training facility for Union soldiers. The site of the camp later became the location of the Gibson County Fair Grounds, where they hold Kiddie Day, Military Appreciation Day and Senior Citizen Day.
